STRAAT Coilover Street Performance

STRAAT, of Miami, Florida has proven that they know exactly how to build a classic 911. One example of their recent work is this awesome 1983 911 using our Coilover Street Performance Package

There’s a bit of ebony/ivory going on with the judicious use of contrasting surface treatments between the light gray paintwork set off by contrasting trim and wheels. The car looks great in an understated way that makes you want to get in and drive.

Of course, none of this would matter if the ride and handling didn’t live up to the promise, or if Porsche’s classic handling had been compromised along the way.  No worries. STRAAT installed an Elephant Racing Coilover Street Peformance suspension package to preserve and enhance the 911’s classic driving character.

The Von Shocks™ Coilover Conversion Front & Rear delivers and firm but streetable ride, with flatter cornering and driver control. They make quick work ofheight adjustment, allowingthe suspension to be dialed in exactly to the owner’s preferences – including corner balancing the car to account for the weight of the occupant(s) in the car.

With the uprated engine comes more heat. To handle the added oil cooling demands, the original ‘trombone’ setup was replaced with an Elephant Racing Fender Mounted cooler kit with a proper Carrera radiator type cooler. This includes our Finned Oil Lines to further enhance heat dissipation.

Polybronze™ Control Arm & Spring Plate Bushings represent the ideal compromise between streetability and performance. They deliver racing suspension control and a comfortable ride quality.

The Racing Bump Steer Kit eliminates steering knuckle twist induced toe steer and can be used on raised spindles of any height. In short, it adds some welcome predictability into a classic 911’s handling when facing road surface irregularities under load.

To bring precision back to steering response, a new set of ball joints and turbo tie rods ensure the car steers as new, even more than 37 years after it was originally built.

The QuickChange™ Strut Brace provides resistance to chassis twist and strut tower flex – something that older cars had even when new, but amplifies with age and use. The QuickChange Strut Brace is a modular solution that scales from a single bars on up to 935 style “X” brace.

Engine management has been brought up to the modern day using electronic fuel injection and a standalone ECU, ensuring years of smooth operation and serviceability. A 915 5-speed gearboxes provides the satisfaction of rowing through the gears and ensures that the 3.0-liter engine is always in the sweet spot of its rev band.

Inside, there’s an old-meets/new theme as the car has a number of throw-back references to even older Porsche models, including 356 style square weave carpeting, but also modern conveniences in audio and navigation.

With all said and done, Straat has elevated this early 80s 911 performance while remaining true to its style and original character.

Elephant Racing would like to thank and recognize STRAAT for their excellent work in building, and allowing us the privilege of showcasing this classic Porsche 911.
