Front Uprights
For Porsche 964
Special front uprights (wheel carriers) were equipped on the 993 RS and cup cars, correctly called RS uprights but sometimes called GT2 uprights or EVO uprights. The reason for RS uprights is to correct undesired geometry changes caused by running a lower ride height.
RS upright advantages include improved suspension travel, superior camber gain, and reduced bump steer. The result is superior performance and ride quality.
RS uprights are an awesome upgrade for any lowered 993 or 964 including C2, C4 and Turbo.

Elephant Racing designed RS uprights faithfully reproduce the factory RS geometry. They are made of aircraft grade aluminum billet for superior strength. They are a direct replacement for the factory 993 RS uprights.
They accept standard 993 front wheel bearings and cover plates. GT2 type tie rods are required.
RS Upright vs Standard Upright Differences
There are five basic differences between RS uprights and standard uprights:
- The wheel bearing has been moved up about 30mm relative to the ball joint
- The steering knuckle is relocated and has inverted mounting of the tie rod
- RS uprights are lightweight aluminum as are standard 993 uprights. 964 standard uprights are steel.
- RS drop link attachment point is a correct fit to RS swaybar.
- RS Uprights are compatible with larger 964 Turbo and 993 radial mount calipers.
RS Upright Geometry Correction
Lowering a 993/964 with stock uprights causes several undesired geometry changes, all of which are corrected by the RS uprights.
RS uprights improve camber gain. The lower control arm angles up at the ball joint end, putting the suspension in a poor point on the camber curve. RS uprights angle the lower control arm back down, thus enhancing camber gain and ride quality.
RS uprights improve suspension travel. Lowering the car compresses the front strut and reduces available suspension travel. The result is premature bottoming out, poor handling and ride quality caused by contact with the bump stop – which creates an abrupt and unsettling rise in spring rate at that corner that unsettles the car. RS uprights put back suspension travel.
RS uprights reduce bump steer. Lowering the car moves the stock tie rod into an unfavorable position on the bump steer curve, make the car a handful to drive over uneven surfaces and requiring frequent adjustments at the steering wheel to maintain a steady trajectory. RS uprights relocate the tie rod end placing bump steer in a favorable position on the curve at lowered ride height.

Building a Safari car? You need these Safari / Rally height front uprights. This is the right way to raise your 964/993. You get raised height along with increased ground clearance and suspension travel while retaining proper suspension geometry.
We engineered these uprights with features to correct the problems introduced when the car is raised with stock wheel uprights.
Wheel Bearing Position
The wheel bearing has been lowered 20mm. This raises the car while simultaneously delivering multiple advantages.
- Geometry correction, the angle of the lower control arm is moved back into the optimal range
- Ground clearance is increased, everything is raised including the lower control arm, swaybar drop link, and tie rod
- Tire scrub is reduced, enhancing directional stability
- Ride height is increased without compromising rebound travel (droop)
Strut Mount
The strut mounting ears are raised. This keeps the strut in the sweet spot balancing compression and rebound travel. Use Safari Uprights with standard 993/964 turbo front struts, or extended struts if raising aggressively.
Raising the car with stock uprights merely extends the strut and compromises rebound travel at the expense of ride quality, handling, and ground contact over uneven terrain. There is even the risk of strut damage due to “topping out”.
Bump Steer Correction
The steering knuckle is modeled after the RS upright for bump steer correction. Use our Safari uprights in combination with GT2 type tie rods.
RS Swaybar Compatible
Our safari uprights are a perfect match with the adjustable RS swaybar. With increased ride height comes a higher center of mass and typically non-stock spring rates. We recommend using the adjustable RS swaybars to allowing tuning of roll stiffness and balance. The drop link attachments on our Safari uprights are at the correct height to fit the RS swaybar while using stock length drop links.
C2/ C4 Compatible
Our Safari Uprights are compatible with both.
Big Brake Compatible
Safari Uprights accept brake calipers that improve stopping power that is otherwise compromise when fitting heavy and large tires. These require radial mounting bolts as used on 964 Turbo and 993 calipers including “Big Reds”. Cars with axial mount 964 C2 and C4 calipers will require upgrading to radial mount calipers. The larger brakes control the rotating mass and increased moment of larger diameter tires.

Bump Steer Improvement
These are factory original Porsche 993 RS uprights. They deliver the same geometry improvements as our Elephant Racing 993 RS uprights for lowered cars.

993 RS stock height is 50mm lower than US spec cars and 20-30mm lower than European spec cars.
Kits come with outer and inner tie rods, two kits required per car.
